Friends of Kenmont PTA

Dear Parents and Carers,

On behalf of the Friends of Kenmont Parent and Teacher Association, I would like to welcome all new pupils and parents to Kenmont Primary School. As a parent, you automatically become a member of our PTA. The role of the PTA is to provide additional support for the children and teachers of Kenmont, by raising funds for the school. We do this through holding regular fundraising projects and seasonal functions. Kenmont is a wonderful community school and we are proud to be part of building a brighter future for our children.

If you are unable to attend PTA meetings, but would like to assist in the future, please contact Jacquie, School Business Manager.

Yours sincerely,
Joanne Moran & Racquel Milan - Chairs

 MINUTES

1. Easter Events
An Easter bonnet parade will be held on Thursday 2 April. Children will make the bonnets at home. The school will advertise the event and the PTA will judge and provide prizes, for Key Stages 1 & 2. (Janine sorting out prizes)
The parade will be followed by an Easter cake and plant sale. Raquel will make the cakes and source plants. Cakes will be decorated on morning of 2 April in the annex. Prem and Clare to assist, along with anyone else who is available.

2. Kenmont Cook Book (Sunday 7 December 12-4 pm)
It was agreed by all that Clare’s suggestion for a cook book to raise funds was a good idea. She has been cooking with the children in Year 4, and many of them have expressed interest in the recipes, and in bringing in their own favourite recipes. Clare will coordinate collection of recipes, pictures and photos and will be assisted by Kiren and Prem in compiling the book. Deadline for recipes to be handed in is 3 April so the book will be ready for 8 May - the International Food Evening. Price to be decided depending on production costs. We hope local shops/cafes will sell it on our behalf, depending on the production values. We need to see if we can get colour printing at cost or discounted.

3. Use of Funds
The PTA voted to used funds raised so far to pay for a new stage for the school (approx £2,000). We will continue to fundraise for lighting, curtains and backdrop. However, we wish to raise funds in the immediate future to pay for a mural in the playground. Tiger and Julie are preparing a proposal and quote for this. They would like to do it in mosaic and involve the children as much as possible.

4. Fund Raising ‘Thermometer’
Janine has been trying to source without success. Jacquie said she would look into it.

Fundraising Ideas
Prem suggested the ‘Enterprise Project’ which was very successful at a friend’s school. She and Kiren are going to try and set one up for Kenmont. The idea involves pupils being given £1 by the PTA and seeing how they can use it in an enterprising way to return more money.

Pub Quiz
There was some debate as to whether this should be held at school or in a pub. Finally it was decided to ask for feedback to see what most parents/guardians preferred. James, Mitch and Tim are organizing the quiz.

8. Summer Fair 2009
A Summer Fair Committee has been set up to assist Jaquie with organisation of this event. The first meeting is 9.10 in the Staff Room, Thursday 12 March. Natasha, Louise and Prem volunteered to be on the committee. Janine said she would organise estate agent boards. Kiren will pass Jaquie previous files on the Summer Fair.

The PTA meets the first Thursday of the month, in the annexe down by the bike stand. Open to all parents, teachers and staff. Coffee, tea and biscuits on free supply!
